Verena is a local Houstonian who graduated from Cy-Creek HS in Cy-Fair ISD.  She received a full ride and played volleyball at Boston College where she was a 3 year captain and graduated with Cum Laude honors. She taught 6 years in elementary school while coaching club volleyball before making the switch to high school.  She returned to her alma matter at Cy Creek High School for 3 years and was the Head Volleyball and Golf coach.  She then took an opportunity to open the 12th and newest Cy-Fair ISD 6A high school, Bridgeland.  While building the program in 2019, she published an article in THSCA magazine called “Opening a New School: HS Sports Programs”.  In the young 5 year varsity program, she has lead the team to 2 District Championships, 4 playoff runs including in 2021 an appearance at the State Tournament and in 2022 finishing as a Regional Finalist.  The Bridgeland program was honored with Houston Chronicle Volleyball Team of the year in 2021 and Coach Khalil was also honored as Houston Chronicle Volleyball Coach of the Year and the Greater Houston Volleyball Coaches Association Coach of the Year and given the honor to coach the Texas 5A-6A All-Star Team.
