Tryout FAQ

We use tryouts to select players for our club volleyball teams. During the tryout session we have coaches running drills that allow evaluators to observe athletes in their positions in both practice and competition scenarios. Evaluators use this performance, as well as the player's prior experience and level of play, competitiveness, coachability, teamwork and communication skills to place athletes on specific teams. Each team's roster is built based on the positions needed and the skill required to compete on that level of team.

We conduct all tryouts at our facility located at The DEN Sports Facility located – 17120 House Hahl Rd, Cypress, TX 77433

Players are required to compete in the age group that their date of birth falls according to the USA Volleyball calendar.

We have to strictly follow the dates set forth by USA Volleyball. Even if your child is a student in a younger grade, their date of birth might require them to play with athletes that are in the older grade.

There are some cases that an athlete's date of birth could allow them to play in a lower age group. Each situation will be evaluated by Directors on a case-by-case basis, however, we generally encourage athletes to stay with the age group that they will graduate high school with.

A private tryout is a private evaluation conducted by one of our Directors. Private tryouts are recommended for athletes who cannot make their age group's tryout for some reason and do not want to risk a spot by waiting for a makeup tryout session. We will call you at the conclusion of your athlete's age group regular tryout session if we are extending an offer.

Absolutely! Please know that makeup tryouts are to fill any remaining open positions after early and regular tryouts have concluded. There is no guarantee that a position will be open on your desired team by the time you participate in a makeup tryout. If you want to guarantee an opportunity to be evaluated for a club team before final selections are made, we highly recommend signing up for a private tryout.

We will instruct players at the start of their tryout session how to handle this and we will give verbal reminders throughout the session. It is up to the athlete to manage this and be sure evaluators see her in each position she wants to be evaluated for.

Unfortunately, we do not have the ability and resources to accept every athlete that tries out; therefore, some athletes do not make a team. We will waitlist any athletes who are interested in being selected in the event of a spot becoming available. We do offer alternative options if the player is not ready to make a team, they can participate in our Club Prep Academy (PPA)

We will extend team offers at the conclusion of the regular tryout session. Please remember that not all athletes will make a club team. If you are offered a spot on a team we will require your immediate answer.

We will offer athletes who are selected for teams at the conclusion of the tryout session. We expect an answer before you leave our facility. If you accept you will need to complete all paperwork and submit your nonrefundable deposit. If you choose to decline the offer, we will immediately offer that spot to the next person. If you leave the facility without notifying us of your decision, we will offer that spot to the next person. We will not hold a spot.

If we are offering your athlete a spot, we will contact you by phone at the conclusion of her age group’s regular tryout session. Please be ready to give us an immediate answer.

Second, you will receive an email with a registration link to whichever email you used to register your athlete for the tryout. You will need to fill out all requested information and an invoice will be created for your subsequent monthly payments. Once the invoice is issued you can choose to pay in full and or set up Auto-Pay directly on the system.

We take your commitment to a team seriously; you are securing a spot specifically needed for that team and our organization will rely on your commitment, physically and financially, for the duration of the season. 

Yes. We offer monthly payment plans and (3% off of the lowest sibling). Any discounts are applied to the amount remaining after the deposit and will be applied to your last installment.

All team fees include the cost of practices, tournament entries, facility usage and equipment, strength & agility training (OLLIN), coach salary and travel and full uniform. National teams (Gold and Adidas) also receive automatically free entry to our famous, over the top, College Coaches Camp – The Original CCC in all the Houston area!

All athletes must hold a membership with USA Volleyball and our governing Region. These memberships are released annually in the beginning of September and are paid directly to USAV and the Lone Star Region. The fee is about $50.

If the team is participating in any tournament governed by AAU, a AAU membership must be purchased and the cost may vary around $25

 Athletes that are selected for a travel team will have additional travel costs. You will be responsible for travel, airfare and accommodations. These costs will vary for several factors including whether or not a tournament is utilizing a Stay to Play Policy.

Each team is required to have certified scorekeeper(s) and referee(s). Each certification is $25 and good for two consecutive seasons. Your coach will let you know if this will be needed.
