Gabi Carbone started playing volleyball back in Brazil when she was 15 years old after trying several other sports. Volleyball was definitely one of her Passions. She fell in Love with the sport and three decades later she is still giving herself to this amazing sport we all love.
Gabi played in Brazil for six years before she moved to the US to continue her career.
Gabi Carbone has been working with the club since 2000 when she got to Houston, TX. She was first named the Club Recruiting Coordinator in 2010 and then named Club Director shortly after in 2012. In 2023, Gabi Carbone founded Houston Prime Athletics.
After graduating from the University of Houston in 2003 with degrees in psychology and kinesiology, Carbone started coaching right away where she spent nine seasons with the University of Houston Cougar volleyball program. During her time at the University of Houston, Carbone has helped the team to seven winning seasons, one trip to the C-USA Championships and one trip to the semi-finals. She also trained several All Americans and All Conferences players. Carbone was considered one of the top recruiters in the nation. Her commitment to the volleyball community extends far beyond an average coach. She has been training and developing players since 1998. Carbone's national and international knowledge and experience is crucial in training and preparing kids to further their volleyball careers. Since committing full time to the club realm, Carbone has helped several players to fulfill their dreams of playing volleyball at the collegiate level. She has also qualified almost every team she has coached for Junior Olympics, where she has earned Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals and also a few 5th Place finishes. She has led her teams to three National Qualifier Championships and a few Silver and Bronze Medal Placements at National Qualifiers. Gabi won her first GJNC National Championship with her 16 Gold team in 2016 in Indianapolis, IN. The following summer, she brought home the Bronze medal with her 17 Gold team in Minneapolis, MN. This shows the importance of continuity.
Carbone also brings a great deal of international experience to our program. As a native of Brazil, the top country in volleyball, Carbone has played at the highest level, making her an exceptional player and trainer. As a former student-athlete for University of Houston, Carbone set the program record with 3.55 digs per game in the pre-libero era and was the team captain. She is also in the program's Top 10 with 0.35 service aces per game. Carbone was a member of the 2001 First-Team All-C-USA. Before coming to UH, Carbone was a standout in her native country of Brazil as well as at Seward County Community College in Kansas, where she garnered All-American First-Team honors, AVCA First Team All American, Player of the Year and several All Conference and All Region awards during her two years there.
